A celebration of life was held for my grandfather on Friday, July 10th. The service took place at the beautiful First Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC. My grandfather spent every Sunday at the church with his Sunday school group, and I have many memories of meeting him after to attend the regular worship. My grandfather, who we lovingly called Pawpaw or “The Sheriff”, was an incredible man. He lived a long and full life and had such an impact on those around him. He will certainly be missed by many.
I put together a quick video tribute of my grandfather, from submissions given to me from my mother, my aunts, and a few of my own. Check out the video below to see a quick glimpse of this great man’s long and loving existence:
The service, the first in the sanctuary since the beginning of COVID, was absolutely beautiful and a fitting way to send off my grandfather. My brother and I said a few words and memories of our PawPaw, and while it was very emotional, it was a great experience to be with pretty much just our close family. After heading a few minutes down the street to Oak Hill Cemetery, we laid my grandfather to rest, just adjacent to his parents. Rest in peace PawPaw! We love you.
